Our brother in faith, the Reverend Dr. Harold A. "Rev." Henning, 84, of South Heidelberg Township passed away on Wednesday evening, April 15, 2015 at his residence. The Rev. Dr. Henning was a member of St. Paul's UCC, Robesonia. He had also served as the Interim Pastor of St. Paul's UCC from October 28, 2012 to December 23, 2012, and Supply Preacher for part of May 2013.

The Rev. Dr. Henning married Doris Ann (Bourguignon) on June 13, 1953 in Christ Church, Bath, PA.
Born in Bath, PA on April 14, 1931, he was the son of the late Robert L. and Mabel A. (Hefentrayer) Henning.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are his three children: Jonathan L. Henning husband of Robin (Smith), Robesonia; Timothy P. Henning, Sr. husband of Crystal (Cote), Myerstown; and Elizabeth A. Henning-Ravesteijn, Arlington, VA. Six grandchildren, Joshua Henning; Dr. Justin Henning; Timothy Henning, Jr; Jordan Henning; Maaike Ravesteijn; and Sofie Ravesteijn; and five great grandchildren. Two brothers, Warren L. Henning, Northampton; and Robert L. Henning, Millboro, DE; and a sister, Jean B. Ruch, Howertown, PA.

The Rev. Dr. Henning served as Pastor at Starview U.C.C. in Mt. Wolf, PA, in Penn Central Conference from 1956 to 1961; Faith U.C.C. in Grantville, PA, in Penn Central Conference from 1961 to 1966; Bausman Memorial U.C.C., Bethany Children’s Home, Pennsylvania Southeast Conference from 1966 to 2000 where he was Associate Pastor from 1966 to 1985; served as Director of Home Life, Assistant to the Superintendent of Bethany Children’s Home from 1966 to 1985; and was the Executive Director of Bethany Children’s Home from 1985 to 2000. Rev. Henning was a father figure to hundreds of children that passed through Bethany over those years.


Rev. Henning was also active in the National Association of Homes for Children and the PA Council for Children’s Services. He was a past member of the Conrad Weiser Rotary Club; active in the Conrad Weiser Renaissance Program; and served on the Board of Directors of the P. Buckley Moss Society for more than 20 years.
Rev. Henning was named Executive of the Year for 1993 by the Council for Health and Welfare Services of the United Church of Christ. He received the Robert V. Moss Award for Excellence in Ministry in 1996 from Lancaster Theological Seminary, and was awarded an Honorary Doctor of Divinity bestowed by Ursinus College on May 19, 2001.

A Memorial Service was held on Friday, April 24, 2015 at 2:30pm at St. Paul’s U.C.C. in Robesonia with the Rev. Dr. Benjamin Motz officiating. A visitation with the family was held on Friday from 1:00pm to 2:30pm at St. Paul's U.C.C. Interment was private at the convenience of the family.
